Day 1: UK to Lima Depart the UK on your overnight flight, via Bogotá. Day 2: Lima D On arrival, you will be met and transferred to your hotel. An afternoon tour of Lima takes you past the stately Government Palace, located in the Main Square, to the city cathedral. Explore the cloisters and entryway of San Francisco Monastery and its network of underground catacombs. Wander through the neighbourhood of San Isidro and the modern district of Miraflores. Return to your hotel, and later this evening enjoy a welcome dinner. Day 3: Lima to Puerto Maldonado B/L/D After breakfast, transfer for your flight to Puerto Maldonado. Travel by boat to your lodge arriving in time for lunch. This afternoon, follow a trail to the Caiman Cocha, a small lagoon, where you can see the black caiman and white caiman of the Owbow Lake. Witness your first spectacular sunset in the Amazon, before returning for dinner. Day 4: Puerto Maldonado B/L/D After an early breakfast, embark on a riverboat trip to a tropical forest where you will begin a hike to Sandoval Lake. On arrival, enjoy a boat ride and if you’re lucky you may spot a giant otter. Return back to the lodge for lunch, then visit Monkey Island, positioned in the heart of the Madre De Dios River. Day 5: Puerto Maldonado B/L/D After breakfast, embark on a hike deep into the forest to the Lost Cocha, these wetlands play an ecological role of great importance within the Amazon Rainforest. En route, pass through an abundance of flora and fauna, and with luck, you may spot the Peruvian Jaguar or Brazilian Tapir. Once in Lost Cocha, climb to the top of an observation platform to see the area this captivating swamp covers. After lunch back at the lodge, the afternoon is spent visiting a local family and learning about their plantation. Day 6: Puerto Maldonado to Cusco B This morning, travel back to the city centre where you can browse through local products at the market before catching your flight to Cusco. On arrival, uncover the remnants of the city’s Incan and colonial past on an afternoon city tour. Marvel at the gold and silver-leafed walls and skilful masonry of the Incas at Koricancha, the city square at the Plaza de Armas and visit the Cusco Cathedral. Explore the Incan rock fortress of Sacsayhuaman, the underground cave and temple of Kenko, then take in the panoramic views over the rocky ruins of Puca Pucara, an ancient military fort. Wander through Tambomachay, the Baths of the Inca, before stopping at “Inka’s Expression” workshop to watch local artisans create beautiful silver pieces, paintings and wood carvings.
