Day 1: UK to Antananarivo Depart the UK on your scheduled overnight flight to Antananviro via Addis Ababa. Day 2: Antananarivo D On arrival you will be met and transferred to your hotel. Relax and settle in before a welcome dinner. Day 3: Antananarivo to Antsirabe B/L/D After breakfast, enjoy a short tour of the town. Tana, as the capital is universally known, has a rich history and has been the heart of Malagasy power for three centuries. Head to the colonial buildings and steep streets of the Haute-Ville, or high town, for lunch with views over the city. After lunch, depart the city for the south, passing through the rice fields and villages of the highlands before arriving at the spa town of Antsirabe for a city tour of the colonial town and ‘pousse-pousse’, a rick-shaw riding experience. Day 4: Antsirabe to Fianarantsoa B/L/D Continue south, stopping in Ambositra, one of the hearts of traditional art and handicrafts in Madagascar, where you can explore the markets and visit the Zafimaniry artisans famed for their wood-carving. Visit a local restaurant to sample some regional specialities before continuing to Fianarantsoa, the main city centre of the Betsileo ethnic community, and a beautiful city built across three levels on the hillside. Day 5: Fianarantsoa B/L/D Travel to Ranomafana National Park, part of the UNESCO listed Rainforests of Antsinanana and one of the most bio-diverse locations on the planet. Created largely to protect the endangered Golden Bamboo Lemur and Greater Bamboo Lemur, it is also home to another 27 mammal species, and abounds with birdlife, reptiles and amphibians. Spend the day exploring with your guide before returning to Fianarantsoa. Day 6: Fianarantsoa to Ranohira B/L/D Depart the highlands on your journey to Ranohira. First stop at Ambalavao, visit the Antemoro paper factory where you can witness the process of making paper from the bark of the mulberry tree. Travel along the Andringitra Mountains to your next stop at Anja Community Reserve, a woodland area with a freshwater lake at the base of a cliff and home to the highest concentration of ring-tailed lemurs in Madagascar. Arrive at Ranohira village for your trip to Isalo National Park.
