Day 2: Lima D On arrival, transfer to your hotel before a tour of Lima. Visit the Government Palace, San Francisco Monastery, picturesque San Isidro and modern Miraflores, before this evening’s welcome dinner. Day 3: Lima to Puerto Maldonado B/L/D After breakfast, fly to Puerto Maldonado. In the afternoon, trek to a brazil nut harvesting camp. This evening, enjoy a pre-dinner boat excursion to observe the nocturnal animals of the Amazon. Day 4: Puerto Maldonado B/L/D A morning hike through Tambopata National Reserve takes you to Lake Sandoval for a row boat ride. Ascend into the treetops after lunch and enjoy a spectacular sunset. End today’s activities with a visit to a Shiringuero encampment. Day 5: Puerto Maldonado B/L/D After breakfast, venture downriver by boat to a native farm for a tropical fruit tasting before visiting a native Machiguenga family. Return to the lodge for an afternoon at leisure before dinner. Day 6: Puerto Maldonado to Cusco B After breakfast, a boat will carry you to the centre of Puerto Maldonado to browse a local market before flying to Cusco. On arrival, uncover the remnants of the city’s Incan and colonial past on a city tour. Day 7: Cusco B/L This morning, journey by train to Machu Picchu. A full-day tour takes you around the tombs, temples and palaces of this ancient city of ruins. Enjoy lunch in nearby Aguas Calientes, the travel home by train. Day 8: Cusco to Puno B/L Today, visit the Temple of Wiracocha, Raqchi, an Inca archaeological park and the Raya, a well-placed viewpoint before arriving in Puno. Day 9: Puno B/L Today’s highlight is a trip to Lake Titicaca, the highest and largest navigable lake on earth. After lunch, follow 535 stone steps to a fantastic observation point, before walking back to the port to board a boat to the floating island of Uros. Day 10: Puno to Arequipa B/L/D Leaving in the morning, travel to a lookout point with far-reaching views over the Lagunillas Lagoon. Stop for refreshments before visiting the plains of Pampa Canahuas. Arrive in Arequipa in time for dinner. Day 11: Arequipa to Nazca B/L/D A scenic 12-14 hour drive, past white beaches, coastal towns, and lofty mountain passes as you follow the great Pan-American Highway to Nazca. Day 12: Nazca to Paracas B/L Get a bird’s eye view of the fascinating Nazca Lines on a 25-minute flight over the lines (subject to weather conditions). Back on land, travel to Paracas, stopping at a local winery and pottery studio. Day 13: Paracas B Board a shared boat for the morning’s excursion to the Ballestas Islands, and the chance to see local sealife, before an afternoon at leisure. Day 14: Paracas to Lima B/D Start your day with a scenic 4-5 hour drive along the Pacific Coastline to Lima. On arrival, the remainder of the day at leisure, before a farewell dinner. Day 15: Lima to the UK B Transfer for your overnight return flight, via Madrid, or continue on to your chosen extension.
