Day 2: Ulaanbaatar L/D On arrival, transfer to your hotel and enjoy lunch in a Mongolian restaurant. Visit the National History Museum and Sukhbaatar Square. This afternoon, explore Bogd King Palace, a large complex that was the winter home of Mongolia’s last king. Day 3 Ulaanbaatar to Gun Galuut Nature Reserve B/L/D Visit the Gandan Monastery – the largest Buddhist monastery in Mongolia, housing over 500 monks. Then travel to Gun Galuut Nature Reserve via the imposing Chinggis Khan Statue Complex. Day 4 Gun Galuut Nature Reserve B/L/D Visit Ikh-Gun and Ayaga lakes to see incredible birdlife. During your visit, stop off for a visit with a nomadic family to taste the local airag. Day 5: Gun Galuut Nature Reserve to Baga Gazriin Chuluu B/L/D Travel to Baga Gazriin Chuluu, in the Middle Gobi, a unique rock formation and rock-strewn range of canyons, caves and a solitary lake. Day 6: Baga Gazriin Chuluu to Tsagaan Suvraga B/L/D Today you’ll continue on your journey through the Middle Gobi to the dramatic white limestone cliffs of Tsagaan Suvraga, thought to be over 10 million years old where you’ll have the afternoon at leisure. Day 7: Tsagaan Suvraga to Yoliin Am B/L/D Start the journey to Yoliin Am in the Southern Gobi. Walk to the picturesque Yol Valley, part of the Gobi National Park’s Three Beauties Mountain range. Day 8: Yoliin Am to Khongoryn Els B/L/D This morning, journey to Khongoryn Els where you’ll enjoy a traditional lunch and then visit a family of camel breeders. Stay overnight at the Gobi-Erdene Ger Camp in a wooden house. Day 9: Khongoryn Els B/L/D Explore Mongolia’s largest sand dune, which is affectionately known as the ‘Singing Dune’. For those who are feeling adventurous you can climb to the top to enjoy an unparalleled view. Day 10: Khongoryn Els to the Bayanzag Flaming Cliffs B/L/D Begin your journey to the brightly-coloured Bayanzag Flaming Cliffs to witness the magnificent landscapes, and the place where the first ever fossilised dinosaur eggs were found. Day 11: Bayanzag Flaming Cliffs to Ongyn Khiid B/L/D Wake up early to experience the rising sun over the breathtaking Gobi landscape. Journey from the Central to the Northwest point of the Gobi and proceed to Ongyn Khiid. Located at the banks of Ongi River, you’ll have a chance to view the ruins of two famed monasteries on your afternoon hike. Day 12: Ongyn Khiid to the Orkhon Valley B/L/D Explore Mongolia’s ancient capital city Karakorum, located in the Orkhan Valley that Chinggis Khaan chose as the Capital of the Empire, and so the area holds enormous symbolic and historic importance. Day 13 Orkhon Valley B/L/D Visit the Erdenezuu monastery, the museum of Karakorum, Phallic Rock and Turtle Rock. Day 14: Khustai National Park B/L/D Visit the Khustai National Park; famous for the preservation of its ‘przewalski’ (wild horses) that have been re-introduced back to the natural landscapes and savannahs. Day 15: Ulaanbaatar B/L/D After breakfast you’ll drive back to Ulaanbaatar where you’ll spend a leisurely afternoon unwinding. Enjoy a colourful traditional Mongolian folk concert in the evening, over a farewell dinner. Day 16: Ulaanbaatar to UK Today, you’ll be transferred to the airport for your return flight back to the UK, or continue on to your chosen extension.
