Day 1: UK to Chennai Depart the UK on your overnight flight. Day 2: Chennai D On arrival, you will be met by a local guide and transferred to your hotel. Day 3: Chennai B/L/D Today, drive along the world-famous Marina Beach taking you to Mylapore. Look inside the San Thome Basilica, the resting place of ‘Doubting Thomas’. Day 4: Chennai to Thiruvannamalai, via Mahabalipuram B/L/D This morning visit Fort St. George, its museum gives a fascinating insight into early colonial life. Proceed on to visit to the monolithic shrines and rock-cut temples of Mahabalipuram. From here continue to a relaxing dinner at your hotel. Day 5: Thiruvannamalai to Puducherry B/L/D Visit the Arunachaleswara Temple - pass the sanctum sanctorum which houses the ancient Agni Linga. Explore the Arunachala mountain and the Virupaksha Cave, before continuing on to Puducherry. Day 6: Puducherry B/L/D After breakfast, take a rickshaw ride around Puducherry’s French Quarter. Then visit the Notre Dame des Anges and the Sri Aurobindo Ashram. Day 7: Puducherry to Kumbakonam, via Chidambaram B/L/D Set off for Kumbakonam, stopping en route at Chidambaram to visit the magnificent Nataraja Temple. Continue your journey to your hotel. In the evening, enjoy a cooking demonstration. Day 8: Kumbakonam to Madurai, via Tanjore B/L/D This morning takes in a visit to the incredible Brihadeeswarar Temple. Before lunch there’s still time to see the nearby Royal Palace. After lunch, drive to Madurai and on arrival, check in at your hotel. Day 9: Madurai B/L/D This morning visit the flower market then the great Meenakshi Temple and the Tirumala Nayak Palace. After lunch take an excursion to the nearby ‘Potters Village’ of Vilacheri’. In the evening visit Meenakshi Temple to see the closing ceremony. Day 10: Madurai to Munnar B/L/D After breakfast drive to the hills of Munnar, and enjoy the rest of the day at your leisure. Day 11: Munnar B/L/D Today you’ll discover the lush beauty of this region, with tea-covered, mist-shrouded slopes, refreshingly cool climate and spectacular mountain scenery. Return to the hotel for a well-earned rest and reviving dinner. Day 12: Munnar to Kochi B/L/D Drive to Kochi (formerly Cochin) and the afternoon will be at your leisure to relax. Meet for dinner and enjoy an evening watching a Kathakali dance performance. Day 13: Kochi B/L/D After breakfast enjoy a walking tour to watch fishermen hoisting their catch from the cantilevered Chinese fishing nets that line the shore.
