Continue to the ancient city of Polonnaruwa, former capital of the Sinhalese kingdom, admire the ruins of the Royal Palace, and wander around the Gal Vihara. DAY 12 ‹ DAMBULLA & KANDY: Visit Dambulla Rock Temple, where caves contain over 2000sq metres of painted walls. Stop at a spice garden before continuing to Kandy’s Temple of Tooth Relic, one of the holiest shrines in Buddhism. Enjoy a cultural show. DAY 13 ‹ KANDY: Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage was established in 1975 to care for abandoned elephants: witness these magnificent creatures being fed and bathed.
