DAY 3 QUITO: One of the world’s first UNESCO Heritage Sites, a tour of Quito encompasses the Basilica del Voto Nacional, Presidential Palace, and San Francisco de Quito church, housing masterpieces by indigenous artists. Admire La Compañia Church, made of volcanic stone with a gold- covered interior, and visit El Panecillo for panoramic views of the city. Continue to the IntiÑan Equator Museum and Middle of the World monument to take photos standing with a foot in each hemisphere. DAY 46 THE AMAZON RAINFOREST: Arrive at the Napo Cultural Centre, home to the Kichwa Añangu community. Head by motorboat to the parrot Clay Lick to see flocks of yellow-crowned parrots and dusky-headed parakeets. The Pericos trail provides further opportunities to see parrots, parakeets, macaws, howler monkeys, and tapir. Visit Kuri Muyu intercultural interpretation centre to learn about Kichwa traditions and sail the Napo River onboard ancestral Kichwa catamarans. Explore Añangu Creek, spotting monkeys, caiman and giant river otters, before a traditional dinner of local maito (grilled fish) and, for the adventurous, grilled worms known locally as Chontakuru. DAY 79 OTAVALO: Enjoy lunch at a family- run hacienda, followed by a rose farm tour. Stroll Otavalo’s renowned indigenous market, a cultural hub steeped in ancient tradition, and explore Cotacachi, famous for its leather products. A cooking class teaches you about the cuisine of the Kichwa Otavalo people. On Day 9, head into the Ecuadorian Andes with a scenic drive to Cotopaxi Province. DAY 10 COTOPAXI NATIONAL PARK: Visit one of the highest active volcanoes in the world, Cotopaxi, 5897 meters above sea level. Learn about the area’s unique flora and fauna before continuing to Limpiopungo Lake to hike through the stunning grassland, spotting hummingbirds and wild horses. Lunch will be served in a restaurant within the National Park before your journey back to Quito. DAY 11 RETURN TO THE UK: Transfer to the airport for your flight home.
