34 Paphos Once the capital of Cyprus, this small harbour town and fashionable resort offers visitors an area of lovely landscapes, glorious beaches, historic treasures and untouched villages. The port area is dominated by a medieval fort and nearby are the remains of Roman villas and the ‘tomb of the kings’. Charming pavement cafés, restaurants and bars line the attractive harbour. A visit to the Akamas area is highly recommended; most of the peaceful villages have traditional houses and offer delicious food in the local tavernas. The area also has some of the best beaches in the South. Coral Bay Located near Paphos, this 600m crescent of soft sand and clear waters is undoubtedly one of the best beaches on the west of the island and gets its name from the sand’s pinkish hue. Coral Bay is a popular resort and over recent years has become one of the leading resorts in Cyprus. It is well situated between vineyards to the north and banana plantations in nearby Peyia, but it’s the beach and coastline that brings the people to Coral Bay. Limassol Cosmopolitan Limassol is the centre of the island’s wine production and is an up and coming area. Now with its brand new marina and old town resorted to its original glory, hotels, restaurants and nightspots are located along the beach area to the east of the port. Larnaca With its palm-lined promenade, Larnaca has a cosmopolitan feel to it. Home to the island’s main airport, it offers many visitors their first sight of Cyprus. A bustling town with good shopping and places to eat or go for a stroll on its impressive seafront. Ayia Napa This former sleepy fishing village has some of the best beaches in Cyprus. It has become a magnet for tourists and is popular for scuba diving and snorkelling, as well as its array of bars and restaurants. Protaras Protaras has recently grown into a small resort which has become increasingly popular with visitors due to its crystal clear waters and dazzling white sand beaches. Tavernas and restaurants have sprung up discreetly around them.
