Cultural Highlights Tour 7 nights/8 days from £689 Day 1: UK to Sigiriya You will be met at the airport and transferred to your hotel where the remainder of the day will be spent at leisure. Day 2: Anuradhapura After breakfast visit Sri Lanka’s first capital, Anuradhapura, dating from the 4th century BC. Afternoon is at leisure with optional bird watching/nature ramble (payable locally). Day 3: Polonnaruwa After breakfast proceed to the ancient city of Polonnaruwa, the capital of Sri Lanka in the 11th & 12th centuries AD. See the ruins of the Royal Palace and visit the Gal Vihare with its splendid carved Buddha statues. Day 4: Sigiriya Early morning exploration of the Sigiriya Rock Fortress, a UNESCO site dating back to the 5th century AD. In the afternoon visit Dambulla Rock Temple and its impressive painted caves. Day 5: Kandy After breakfast, proceed to Matale to visit the Spice Garden and marvel at the batik paintings. In the afternoon tour the city of Kandy. Day 6: Pinnawala In the morning, visit the Botanical Gardens in Peradeniya, before continuing to the Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage, to see elephants being fed and bathed. In the evening head back to Kandy to visit the Temple of the Tooth Relic. Day 7: Nuwara Eliya After breakfast proceed to Nuwara Eliya, Sri Lanka’s leading hill resort and centre of the country’s tea production. Day 8: Colombo to beach stay After breakfast proceed to Kitulgala, witnessing some waterfalls en route, then continue to Colombo for a city tour before transferring to your beach hotel or your next flight.
