Setting off from the neon lights of Bangkok, this comprehensive tour travels up through the ancient Siamese kingdoms of Ayutthaya and Sukhothai to the mountainous jungle landscapes of northern Thailand. Day 1: UK to Bangkok Depart the UK on your scheduled overnight flight. Day 2: Bangkok D On arrival, you will be met and transferred to your hotel where the afternoon will be at leisure. Later enjoy dinner before witnessing the highly acclaimed Siam Nirami show. Day 3: Bangkok B/L Today’s tour takes you through Chinatown to the flower market and Wat Pho, home to one of the country’s longest and most impressive reclining Buddha figures, before visiting Thailand’s most important landmark, The Grand Palace. Day 4: Bangkok to Ayutthaya B/L/D This morning, visit the famous floating market of Damnoen Saduak and continue west to the historical jungle town of Kanchanaburi to visit the Thailand-Burma railway museum. Enjoy lunch at a floating restaurant near the famous Bridge over the River Kwai. Transfer to Ayutthaya for dinner. Day 5: Ayutthaya to Phitsanulok B/L/D Start the day at Ayutthaya’s UNESCO-listed historical park, before wandering the Summer Palace. After your guided tour, visit the ancient royal monastery of Wat Yai Chaimongkhol, before departing Ayutthaya for Phitsanulok. Day 6: Phitsanulok to Lampang B/L/D Today, visit the impressive UNESCO World Heritage Site of Sukothai Historical Park. Following lunch, stop en route at a local hill tribe to learn how native plants are used in traditional cooking. Arrive at Lampang late in the afternoon. Day 7: Lampang to Chiang Mai B/L After breakfast, drive to the Elephant Hospital and nearby Conservation Centre. Arriving in Chiang Mai, visit a gem and silk factory before making a stop at Bo Sang’s craft market. Day 8: Chiang Mai B/L/D After visiting a local market, proceed to Mama Noi Cookery School and Organic Farm. Late this afternoon, travel to the nearby mountain of Doi Suthep, for panoramic views over the city’s vast tropical plains. Near the summit, discover Wat Phra That, Northern Thailand’s holiest shrine. Day 9: Chiang Mai to Chiang Rai B/L/D Today, begin your ascent of northern Thailand’s mountainous regions, to charming Thaton. After lunch, board a traditional long-tail boat for a cruise along the Kok River. Disembark and drive to the infamous Golden Triangle, a mountainous range where Thailand, Laos and Burma converge. Day 10: Chiang Rai to Bangkok B/L/D This morning visit the stunning Wat Rong Khun, an art installation in the form of a temple. After lunch, fly to Bangkok, where you will enjoy a farewell dinner. Day 11: Bangkok to the UK B After breakfast, you will be transferred for your return flight or continue to your chosen extension.
