5 The return of travel to Sri Lanka is the first step to helping their economic recovery and it is absolutely fantastic to hear back from guests returning from incredible holidays to the island. However, the humanitarian crisis in Sri Lanka continues with many families not being able to afford simple necessities like food. Children are dropping out of school, further putting the nation’s future in jeopardy. The Mercury Holidays TFT Preschool, provides an early learning education to children in a poor community, and also offers a solution to help prevent child abandonment through poverty for working families. The preschool was recently visited by a group of Mercury Holidays’ staff and travel agents. Joshua Harford, our Commercial Manager, had this to say about the experience: “To see the preschool’s work first hand was inspiring. The welcome we received and smiles from the children we met will be a memory that will remain with me for life.” To help further support the preschool children, this November we ran our ‘Give Back Friday’ initiative, in juxtaposition with the over commercialised Black Friday campaigns normally seen this month.
