Day 2: Sigiriya After breakfast proceed to Sigiriya. In the afternoon visit Dambulla Rock Temple and its impressive painted caves. Day 3: Anuradhapura After breakfast visit Sri Lanka’s first capital, Anuradhapura, which is over 2,200 years old. The afternoon is at leisure with optional bird watching/nature ramble (payable locally). Day 4: Sigiriya and Polonnaruwa Explore Sigiriya Rock Fortress, a UNESCO- listed site dating back to the 5th century. In the afternoon visit the ancient city of Polonnaruwa, the capital of Sri Lanka in the 11 th and 12 th centuries. See the ruins of the Royal Palace and visit the Gal Vihare with its carved Buddha statues. Day 5: Kandy After breakfast, proceed to Matale to visit a Spice Garden and marvel at the batik paintings. In the afternoon tour the city of Kandy. Day 6: Pinnawala In the morning, visit the Botanical Gardens in Peradeniya, before continuing to the Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage to see elephants being fed and bathed. In the evening head back to Kandy to visit the Temple of the Tooth Relic. Day 7: Nuwara Eliya After breakfast proceed to Nuwara Eliya, Sri Lanka’s leading hill resort and centre of the country’s tea production. Day 8: Colombo to chosen beach stay After breakfast proceed to Kitulgala, witnessing some waterfalls en route, then continue to Colombo before transferring to your beach hotel or your next flight.
